Warriors' Angel   When we started Freedom Excursions we wanted to help everyone we could. However, the vessels we have limit the type and number of Heroes we can take on an outing. And, other organizations have asked if we could assist them in doing something for the veterans.

In the Spring of 2009, we met Susan Price who also had a son, Aaron, in the military. Immediately we bonded with her for the simple reason our son was in the military as well. She and her son planned to come out with Freedom Excursions when he got to Florida on his way to Afghanistan. And what an honor that would have been, to have a Marine on board that had won “Marine of the Year” twice in his first ten years of service. Due to time constraints he chose to visit family and friends, in New York instead, which we thought was very admirable. Sadly, we never got the opportunity to meet Aaron.  Read more...
Helping the Veterans Bryan Custer started the non-profit Freedom Excursions to help injured vets returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

It sounds like a wonderful day that anyone would enjoy. Three hours on the water, fishing, cruising, enjoying a good lunch and soaking up the sun. But for some military veterans dealing with physical and emotional problems, a boat ride on Freedom Excursions can really change their attitude and outlook on life.

The True Heroes A few years ago on Thanksgiving, Aaron M. Kenefick asked his mom what time dinner would be served. He wanted to make sure he’d have time to visit patients at the Veterans Administration hospital.

“That’s where the true heroes are,” Kenefick told his mother, Susan Price.  “I just smiled and said, ‘That’s why I love you so much,’ ” Price recalled telling her son.

This is the spirit that drives Freedom Excursions. We honor the True Heroes of our country with an afternoon of relaxation and peace out on the water.

Why We Do What We Do

Hello Marilyn!

I am not sure if you remember us, but you so graciously took us out on your sunset cruise on March 1st just before our heros were leaving for Afghanistan...it was truely an amazing experience and I am very grateful that you offered such a wonderful opportunity for us.  Our husbands are about to come home (in xxxx) and we were wondering if it would be possible to come out again, maybe on a day cruise because we would like the chance to see dolphins this time.  We have a rather large group that wants to go, so I was also wondering what size group is the maximum we would be able to bring.

It makes us all so happy to know that there are people out there that care about our heros like you.  It just reminds our troops what they are fighting for.  Thank you so much for your service!

Amber

About Us

We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization located in the Tampa Bay, Florida area.

Our USCG Licensed Captains and experienced crew members work side by side with the recreational therapists and nurses from the James A. Haley VA Hospital (Tampa, FL) ranked as one of the best, most efficient, and busiest VA hospitals in the nation in the area of rehabilitation.

Many of the vets have suffered physical wounds while others suffer psychological wounds.  Our recreational opportunities are tailored to the veteran's physical abilities.  We take pride in having the distinction of being the "only" organization that can take the "in-patients" on outings involving fishing, sailing, and other recreational water sports.
