What Is Freedom Excursions and What Do We Do?
Founded in April, 2008 our primary focus was the wounded warrior. After months of research and preparation, September 13, 2008 we took our maiden voyage. We had three generations of war on that excursion (Viet Nam, Desert Storm and a veteran from Operation Iraqi Freedom) all members of AVAST (Amputee VA Support Team). Our goal was to provide a safe and comfortable day of fun and relaxation on the water. We had no idea it would grow into what it has today. We are now a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that has expanded to form partnerships with MacDill AFB, Tampa Vet Center and the James A. Haley VA Hospital which is ranked as one of the best and most efficient medical facilities in the nation in the area of rehabilitation. It is also the busiest Va Hospital in the nation, according to US News & World Report.
Our excursions incorporate medical professionals that highly attest to our program being absolutely vital to the therapy the service members and the families of the fallen receive during their healing and reintegration. Many have suffered physical wounds while others suffer psychological or emotional wounds. Our recreational opportunities are tailored to the physical abilities of the wounded and we take pride in now having the distinction of being the "only" organization in the nation that offers the "in-patients", as well as "out-patients", fishing, sailing, and other recreational water sports. Many of our guests have never been on a boat or experienced the exhilaration of catching a fish. Our guests totally relax and enjoy their day of honor not being reminded of their disability or the trauma they endure 24/7. Freedom Excursions pays all costs for the service members, families and medical professionals to participate in various excursions.
We understand first hand the sacrifices our military heroes and their families make. We offer a variety of excursions to chose from Sunset Cruises, Island Adventures, Dolphin Encounters, to a "Day on the Bay" and Fishing Charters. Veterans, Active Duty, Families of the Fallen, from every branch of service are welcome to participate.
Our mission is simple: To provide a fun, educational and recreational "Day on the Bay" for those who know the stress of military life. To encourage and inspire them to heal mind, body and spirit. To aid in the reintegration process and provide an opportunity to re-establish relationships. To replace STRESS with SMILES!!

We are proud partners of the James A. Haley VA Hospital Adaptive Sports Program
